The Undercover Mother By Emma Robinson

I have been following Emma on Social Media for ages so I was really looking forward to reading her first published book. Emma has a Facebook page called Motherhood For Slackers and writes witty anecdotes about the things her children say in addition to beautiful funny poems about motherhood.

The Undercover Mother follows the story of new mum Jenny who thinks having a baby will be a walk in the park. Jenny is about to start maternity leave from writing her 'Girl About Town' column in which she writes about nights out and her drunken escapades. However, disaster strikes when her boss decides to give her column to a younger colleague.

To save her job, Jenny comes up with the idea of writing a column about motherhood. All she needs to do is to sell this idea to her boss, so to convince her she offers to write a blog because ''she'll have loads of time on her hands'' to prove it will be a big hit. Will tales of baby groups, poop and spit up be enough?

Jenny's first assignment is attending antenatal classes. Here she meets four women from different backgrounds all with very different ideas on motherhood. These friends become part of her Spice Mum crew complete with the code names Posh, Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Jenny! I was absolutely touched by the trials and tribulations these ladies endure whilst at other times I was howling with laughter.

This book is a warts and all version of motherhood - nothing is sacred. I was laughing all the way through it. Emma captures all the thoughts, worries, relationships and friendships that come with having a new baby perfectly.

I'd highly recommend this absolute gem of a book to anyone who fancies a really good belly laugh.

The Undercover Mother is available to buy on Amazon for £1.99 for the Kindle Edition or £7.99 for the paperback.
